Capabilities

The Test Capabilities of the MultiTrace and MegaTrace depend on the configuration that it is built up to.  The test systems are scalable in two ways, the number of pins can be specified as well as the number of channels in the switch matrix.

Basic Capabilities always include Unpowered Curve tracing.  More advanced systems Allow you to power up the device in a static state and make a variety of measurements including Supply current and IV traces of the device while powered.  This latter method is called Powered Curve Tracing

MultiTrace / MegaTrace Vocabulary:

Some Terms are used often when discussing the Curve trace systems, it is useful to have a common definition:
  • Drive: This is what we commonly call the power supplies or SMUs in the MultiTrace or MegaTrace
  • SMU: A Source Measure Unit is a programmable power supply capable of simultaneously being a Voltage or Current source and measuring that Voltage and Current.  The MultiTrace and MegaTrace typically have 4 or 8 SMUs
  • Bus: This is what we commonly refer to a channel in the switch matrix
  • Switch Matrix: The array of switches in a cross-point configuration with 2,4, or 6 input busses and up to thousands of pins at the output.  Common to electronic terminology, this Bus also carries signals both ways
  • Fixture:  This is the common connector that serves as the interface between the MultiTrace or MegaTrace and the DUT Board.  Typically we use a PGA socket or pogo block like the Octopogo or RTI 950 fixtures
  • Controller:  Also called an Industrial Controller.  This is what we call the computer or PC, we do that to keep your IT and shipping people happy.  
  • DUT Board:  This is the last link between the tester and the Device Under Test.  This PC Board sits between the Fixture and the device Socket
  • DUT Socket: This is where you put your device.  RTI has many socket options designed for F/A or Reliability testing.  Open top sockets and Universal BGA sockets are popular choices for use with the test systems.
