Photo Examples of Custom test fixtures
Multi-Connector "socket style" fixture base
This versatile interconnect block is a combination of a removable pogo pin block and base array of coaxial connectors. It acts as an interface between the motherboard / load board, and Dut board / daughter card.
Ceramic Hybrid
Socket and fixture for testing a ceramic hybrid module and flex circuit for a space satellite. Test points on the ceramic are randomly placed on a pitch as small as 0.5mm.
Switch Matrix on Fixture with an RTI
custom IC socket
This production test fixture included a switch matrix and a custom test socket for a custom 32 BGA device. Switches allowed each pin to be programmed high, low or float.
Custom “Non-Invasive” Fixture
RTI designed and manufactured 50 of these test fixtures for a hand-held communications device. Contact to the unit under test was made through pogo pins which went through small holes in the plastic base. The test box contained active electronics to interface to the customers test equipment through an RS232 connection. These test boxes saved the customer time and money by allowing reprogramming of the fully assembled device without disassembly.
Socket on Existing PCB
The customer required that a test socket be mounted to an existing PCB without mounting holes to hold the socket to the board. RTI designed a surface mount socket for the Multi-chip module (MCM) and a rugged clamp to align and hold the socket on the PCB while still allowing access to all the required connectors on the PCB.
Medical Hybrid
This ten-up test fixture was designed to test medical hybrids. Test pads were located on both the top and bottom of the ceramic hybrid. Multicolor LEDs indicate which hybrid was being tested and the status of each unit ( good, bad, under test, not tested).
35mm Flex Fixture
Test socket and fixture designed to test a silicon-on-flex circuit with probes on 0.5mm centers. Socket was also designed to mate to an RTI designed through-hole adaptor with active electronics and mating socket receptacle on the customer's test platform.
Microprocessor controlled test fixture for high speed optical modules
This Ten-up test socket and test system is for high speed optical interface modules. The fixture tested 10 units in parallel. The test fixture is microprocessor controlled and tests for opens and shorts between all pins.
Pneumatic Controlled Test Fixture
The custom fixture is for fully assembled PCBs used in specialized audio amplifiers. The design incorporates a floating base to protect the pogo pins when not in use. A custom PCB incorporates all interconnect from the test pins to connectors on the back side of the test fixture. No discrete wiring is used, resulting in a highly reliable test fixture. The switch on the right activates the adjustable pressure pads for testing.
RF Shielded UUT
Seen at left is a custom test fixture for two RF boards which incorporates machined aluminium RF shielding. The UUTs interface to a motherboard incorporated within the test fixture. Clamps securely hold each UUT in place during testing sequences.
Silicon-on-silicon
This custom socket and test fixture at right is designed for a six chip, silicon-on-silicon, BGA module. The socket lid is shown on left. The fixture is clamped around the customer's PCB and allows the customer to use the production PCB without redesigning for a specific socket.
Hybrid Strip Test Fixture
RTI has designed several test fixtures for hearing aids. The fixture at left tests hybrids in a 10-up strip and includes multicolor LEDs to indicate test status of each part. All interface electronics are included in the test fixture.
