Qualification Testing

Qualification testing involves validating that the device meets 100% of all of its published specification including reliability.  RTI makes sockets and fixtures to meet the needs of all types of qualification and validation testing.  This testing is often done on new products with recently developed packaging.  In such cases, it’s important to have a supplier like RTI who can quickly adapt to any package regardless of the parameters.

Reliability Stress testing subjects the devices to extreme temperatures and other electrical stress for extended periods of time.  RTI sockets are constructed of high-performance plastics and stainless steel parts.  Our small footprint burn-in sockets offer value at quantities needed to fill a load board, RTI Multisite Sockets can hold a multitude of devices and reduce cost per site. 

ESD Testing can be done in just about any socket but the impedance performance of a low cost molded socket can often be unpredictable.  For example consider characterizing a QFN package and the same product in a QFP package, Using low-cost socket results in two different contact shapes and unequal impedance as a result.  Using RTI spring pin socket solves this because we can select the same pogo pin for both sockets leaving you with just the package as a variable.  Furthermore, Spring pins have typically excellent bandwidth which is compatible with ESD signal requirements.

Cutting Edge devices need high-performance sockets to get good results from functional characterization bench setups.  These are not the run of the mill ATE tests, In this case, the device is run through its paces at all extremes of temperature and bandwidth or any other parameter important to the design or end user.  Most RTI sockets easily handle -40°C to 125°C operating range with minimal dimensional or electrical change.  For a wider range, we can select from higher performing pins and materials.  RTI has made sockets to mount on cold fingers for sub -70C use and also burn sockets in for down well parts up to 360C
